Sako 85 Brown Bear and 375 Holland & Holland Magnum combination
The Sako 85 Brown Bear chambered in the legendary 375 Holland & Holland Magnum Caliber is a great hunting rifle for big bodied animals. Introduced in 1912 the 375 Holland & Holland Magnum, soon became the most popular all-round cartridge for African hunting due to the relatively moderate recoil and the modern bullet design and has been so ever since. The range of .375″ bullets that seem to be the most popular is in the 250 to 350 grain range. The muzzle velocity around the 2650 to 2300 ft/s mark, makes this a incredible useful all round rifle for hunting medium to larger bodied antelope.

Sako 85 Brown Bear 375 Holland & Holland Magnum Features
Walnut Stock

The Sako 85 Brown Bear rifle has a high grade laminate stock that features a straight comb. It comes with a shadow line cheekpiece on the left hand side of the stock. Although it can be used by left handed shooters and hunters, the stock design fits right handed shooters better. It has a slight palm swell that fit most hands comfortably and is shaped in such a way that the finger align comfortably with the trigger. The laminate stock is very stable, warp and weather resistant with a beautiful classic lacquer finish.
Grip and For-end

The for-end of the stock has a checkered pattern to ensure a firm grip in the wettest conditions. It has a nice comfortable fit in hand and contribute to the rifle’s fine balance and handling characteristics. Swivel studs come standard on the stock for the attachment of a rifle sling or bi-pod. The inletting of the stock also ensure a free floating barrel. The stock also has a pronounced pistol grip, enhancing the ergonomics of the stock.
Durable Recoil Pad

Sako 85 Rifles are fitted with the latest in recoil pad technology. It reduces the impact of the recoil on the shooter which is a very useful feature, especially on the heavy recoiling calibers. The robust pad allows you to fully concentrate on the accuracy of your shots.
Trigger

The wide single stage trigger with a crisp break is adjustable from 2 to 4 lb pull weight. You can easily adjust without removing the stock. The trigger is protected by a steel trigger guard.
Bolt

A one-piece, full-diameter bolt with three locking lugs locks within the barrel extension. The bolt release is on the receiver’s left side. The ejector is mounted on the receiver. The extractor is mounted on the bolthead. The Sako 85 Brown Bear action has a controlled cartridge feed. A red cocking indicator protrudes from the bolt’s rear. The one piece bolt opens with a 70° bolt handle lift.
Sako matches the size of the action to the caliber.
Sako’s combination of the extractor riding low in the ejection port and the receiver mounted ejector means that fired cases leave the action at a low angle and can be neatly deposited in the shooters hand by opening the bolt slowly.
Barrel

The Sako 85 Brown Bear comes with a medium contour barrel and is absolute class Sako engineering. It has been fitted with adjustable fast target acquisition iron sights. Sako 85 barrels are hammer-forged and every Sako rifle has a 5 shot 1 MOA guarantee from 100 yards. The ripple-free exterior and the minimal tooling marks on the inside are both indications of the quality of its construction. The muzzle is not threaded and features a target-style crown. The barrel has a satin finish.
Metallic Bolt Shroud

Robustness and quality go hand in hand. The metallic bolt shroud covers and shields the rear of the bolt body and the firing pin. A red pin indicate when the rifle is loaded. The bolt shroud is stylishly design to taper with the rear of the action.
Detachable Magazine

The magazine Sako pairs with this action is a five-round, double-stack magazine. The removable magazine has an all metal construction. Once inserted the magazine is flush fitting to the bottom of the stock. It also has to be pushed in for the latch to disengage the magazine. This function is to prevent the accidental release of the magazine.
Scope Mounting Options

The Sako 85 has the well known tapered dovetail mounts machined into the receiver for the fitment of scope bases. The most popular base and ring is the Sako Optilock mounts.
Safety

The special two-way Sako safety locks both the trigger and the bolt handle. The unique bolt release button of the Sako Safety System allows you to load or remove a cartridge from the chamber while the safety is engaged.
