Vihtavuori N150 Rifle Powder is a slow burning powder. It is well suited to most common mid-sized cartridges when used with heavier bullets in accuracy and hunting loads. N150 is an excellent choice for 185-220 grain bullets in the .30-06. It also works well for 140-160 grain bullets in the 6.5×55, and 175-200 grain bullets in the .308 Win.

Combining Vihtavuori’s latest decoppering technology and enhanced temperature stability, N150 is a tremendously versatile powder. It offers a lot of options even for the demanding handloader.

Vihtavuori’s N150 multipurpose rifle powder is one of our most popular reloading products. Therefore, it is commonly used with heavier bullets in accuracy loads and hunting loads in cartridges with middle case volumes. These include the .30-06 Springfield, the .308 Winchester and the 6,5×55 SE. The N150 is one of, if not the best, all-rounder powder for European hunting calibers.

N150 is a tubular powder type with grain dimensions of 1,3 mm length and 1,1 mm diameter. The nearly symmetrical shape makes it a good companion for all kinds of reloading equipment. In addition, the burn rate of the N150 is on the medium scale of our rifle powders.

It is also one of our most temperature insensitive powders, and thanks to the added decoppering agent, the coppering of the rifle barrel is minor even when using copper bullets.

What are smokeless powders?

Smokeless powders, or propellants, are essentially mixtures of chemicals. So, they are designed to burn under controlled conditions at the proper rate to fire a projectile from a firearm. Smokeless powders are made in three forms:

• Thin, circular flakes or wafers
• Small cylinders
• Small spheres

Single-base smokeless powders derive their main source of energy from nitrocellulose. Meanwhile, the energy released from double-base smokeless powders (such as the Vihtavuori N500 rifle powders) is derived from both nitrocellulose and nitroglycerine.
