Sauer 101 Forest 30-06 Springfield Combination
The Sauer 101 Forest chambered in the immortal 30-06 Springfield Caliber is a great all round rifle. The .30 projectiles has proven itself a great caliber for short to longer distance hunting. The range of bullets that seem to be the most popular is in the 165 to 212 grain range. The flatter trajectories with a muzzle velocity around the 2500 to 3000 ft/s mark, makes this a useful rifle for hunting larger bodied antelope like Kudu, Eland and Blue Wildebeest. The ability of the 30-06 Springfield Caliber to achieve flatter trajectories and deliver knock down power on larger bodied animals, makes it a great choice for hunters.
Sauer 101 Forest 30-06 Springfield Features
ERGO MAX Stock
The Sauer 101 Forest rifle comes with an impressive walnut stock that features neutral cast for both left and right handed shooters. Sauer based the geometry of the stock on that of their higher-end rifles. It has a slight palm swell that fit most hands comfortably and is shaped in such a way that the finger align perfectly with the trigger. The ERGO MAX stock differentiates itself by the air face inclining to the rear.
The improved position of the head behind the telescopic sight results in easy and comfortable sighting. In addition, the recoil felt is also considerably reduced.
Grip and Forend
The for-end of the stock has a Schnabel type for-end. It has a nice comfortable fit in hand and contribute to the rifle’s fine balance and handling characteristics. The checkering on the stock give both hands good grip and greatly enhance handling in wet conditions. Swivel studs come standard on the stock for the attachment of a rifle sling.
Durable Recoil Pad
Sauer 101 Rifles are fitted with the latest recoil pad technology. It reduces the impact of the recoil on the shooter which is a very useful feature, especially on the heavy calibers. The robust pad allows you to fully concentrate on the accuracy of your shots.
Trigger
Sauer is known for quality triggers on their rifles. The extra wide match shaped trigger blade on the Sauer 101 with a glass-sharp break characteristic is adjustable from 2.0 to 4.0 lb pull weight.
Bolt
Simply perfect – simply SAUER. A one-piece, full-diameter bolt with six lugs, locks within the barrel extension. The bolt release on the receiver’s right side, engages a raceway machined into the bolt to provide stability and guidance during bolt travel. At the face of the bolt are two plunger-style ejectors and a sliding-plate extractor. The bolt handle is capped with a round, polymer knob that bears lateral grooves to ensure a firm grip.
Sauer’s combination of the extractor riding low in the ejection port and the dual ejectors means that fired cases leave the action at a low angle. The biggest advantage from Sauer’s attention to the extractor and ejector design is that the Sauer set up is least likely to have interference issues with a low-mounted scope. The bolt operate with a 60 degree bolt handle lift.
Barrel
The barrel on the Sauer 101 comes from the same factory and is made to the same specifications as all Sauer, Blaser and Mauser barrels. Sauer 101 barrels are cold hammer forged and every Sauer rifle has a sub 1 MOA guarantee for five shots from 100 yards. The ripple-free exterior and the minimal tooling marks on the inside are both indications of the quality of its construction. The muzzle is not threaded and features a target-style crown. The barrel has a satin finish and are fitted with a set of open sights.
Metallic Bolt Shroud
Robustness and quality go hand in hand. The metallic bolt shroud covers and shields the rear of the bolt body and the firing pin. The bolt shroud is stylishly design to taper with the rear of the action with the firing pin protruding at the bottom of the shroud.
Sauer uses the DURA SAFE safety mechanism and is situated on the bolt shroud. The DURA SAFE system is a direct firing pin safety mechanism. It operates as an ergonomic slide on the bolt shroud.
The three position safety combines easiest operation with maximum reliability.
Position 1: Safety on // Bolt locked
2: Safety on // Bolt can be opened
3: Fire
Unique Bedding System
The action bedding system of the Sauer 101 is unique. There is no recoil lug on the action. In place of the lug is a groove in the action behind the forward action screw. A machined block of aluminum that sits in the stock has corresponding lugs that protrude into this groove when the stock and action are together. Sauer uses the same EVER REST action bedding as on the higher end S404 models.
This will ensure precision under the most extreme climatic conditions.
Detachable Magazine
The magazine Sauer pairs with this action is a short, five-round, double-stack magazine. The removable magazine is made of tough weatherproof and temperature-resistant polymer.
Flush Fitting Magazine
Flush fitting, the removal of the magazine requires depressing a spring-loaded button located forward of the magazine well within a circular recess in the bottom metal.
Scope Mounting Options
The Sauer 101 accepts the same scope bases as a long-action Remington 700. Various aftermarket products for the Model 700 enables the Sauer 101 to use a wide variaty of scope bases. There are one- and two-piece bases made from aluminum and steel with zero or up to 40 MOA tapering. Since they all fit the Sauer 101, there are as many options, as one can imagine. Sauer also strongly recommend the SAUER Hexalock mount
Sauer Warranty and Sub MOA Guarantee
The Sauer 101 product range combines long-standing gunsmith expertise with the real experiences of Sauer Hunters and Sport Shooters from all over the world. No matter which Sauer 101 you choose, sub 1 MOA accuracy is guaranteed at 100 yards.
