The Howa 24 inch 308 Winchester FDE Oryx Varmint provide Hunters and Sport shooters with the best of both target shooting accuracy and a very functional hunting rifle. Combined with the Howa Oryx Chassis by MDT , it provides complete ergonomic adjustment without compromising on design or functionality. Similarly, featuring a full monolithic aluminum chassis with an adjustable length of pull and adjustable comb height, the ergonomic fine-tuning on the Howa Oryx Chassis Rifle enables the perfect fit to most shooters.

The 24 inch varmint or bull barrel profile provides the extra stiffness.  The barrel allows for optimum burning of the propellant resulting good muzzle velocity and flatter trajectories. The heavier barrel profile also creates less recoil for absolute target shooting accuracy. It also comes with a forged flat bottom receiver with an integral recoil lug. Action

The Howa M-1500 features a dual locking lug action, providing you with the same action type as some of the best custom built rifles, but at a fraction of the cost. In addition, the Bolt handle acts as a third safety lug. In other words, one of the safest and strongest bolt actions on the market, the bolt features a one-piece forged body and handle. Three pressure relief holes are located at the bottom of the main body. An external style M16 type spring loaded extractor and a M16 style internal plunger ejector. The cartridge size of the caliber Matches the action length.

Safety

The Howa M-1500 Models provide you with a three position safety. The safety is easy to operate and allows you to unload the rifle while it is still in safety mode. The firing pin assembly is housed in a metallic bolt shroud. All Howa M-1500 bolt actions are drilled and tapped to accept one or two piece bases for the mounting of optics.

Barrel

The free-floating hammer forged barrel has no sights for a modern look and finish. After that, the increased diameter of the barrel will result in increased weight and less recoil. Slower heating of the barrel will also take place during a succession of shots. As with all other Howa M-1500 models, the Howa Varmint model has a twist rate that is carefully selected for each individual caliber to optimize bullet performance and accuracy. Barrels come with a precision crown in both threaded and non threaded options.

Howa HACT 2 Stage Trigger

All Howa Varmint rifles include an adjustable Howa HACT 2 Stage Trigger. The Howa Actuator Controlled Trigger system eliminates trigger creep and lightens the trigger pull, delivering out of the box accuracy. The HACT System fits all Howa M-1500 rifles that were previously equipped with Howa’s three position safety trigger group. The trigger is set to 2.5 – 3 lb. It is finished with a serrated trigger shoe.

Aluminium Chassis

The Howa Oryx Varmint comes with a one piece aircraft grade aluminium tactical chassis. Each ORYX is designed for your specific rifle model – holding your action solid for better accuracy.

Stock Grip and For-end

The Howa Oryx Varmint Chassis has an asymmetrical grip pattern and shape that has been specifically designed to give a solid grip in all conditions, a grip that never slips. The For-end is wide and equipped with M-Lok tactical slots and a swivel stud to accommodate a sling and the mounting of a bi-pod. The ORYX fits great in your hands and sits solid on barricades and platforms. For those cold days in the Kalahari or when things heat up at the range the ORYX polymer side panels keep your hand’s comfortable no matter the conditions.

Recoil Pad

To adjust the length of pull on the Oryx Chassis, 7mm spacers (additionally available) can be added to the rubber overmoulded butt pad. The high quality recoil pad reduces the impact of the recoil on the shooter which is a very useful feature, especially on the range. In addition, the robust pad allows you to fully concentrate on the accuracy of your shots.

Magazine

The Howa Oryx Varmint comes standard with a metal trigger guard and a detachable polymer magazine. The magazine has a 8 round capacity.

Stock and Aluminium Bedding Block

In addition to the well-apportioned chassis, the MDT Oryx chassis also has an aluminum bedding block that provides a very stable foundation for the Howa 1500 action. Similarly, surrounded by fiberglass the bedding block runs from underneath the chamber to the back tang. Therefore, puts a solid piece of aluminum between the action and the trigger guard. This makes it very difficult for the action to move from recoil.
